Ignite Phoenix #3 – Check out the amazing submissions!

The community support and interest in Ignite continues to grow, and this is just one more example of how many amazing and exciting things are going on around the Valley!

This weekend a group of judges started going through the list trying to find the ones that will be the actual presentations on Feb 25th at the Tempe Center for the Arts in Tempe. We should have the final lineup posted soon, but in the meantime I wanted to give an extra thanks to everyone who submitted, encouraged others, and helped spread the word!

Kenneth Snelson invented floating compression models in the late 1940s; Buckminster Fuller called the principle tensegrity. Fuller noted, “All [natural] structures, properly understood, from the solar system to the atom, are tensegrity structures.”

Today, researchers are modeling our musculoskeletal system as a tensegrity—a radical departure from the traditional “levers and hinges” anatomical model. What can this shift of perspective mean for us today? What are the Big Rules for effectively and efficiently controlling loosely-coupled structures?

What would be possible if we allowed our bones to float in our bodies … right now?

Description They say that print is dead, or at least the newspapers are. One of the reasons, if you ask me, is what they did the comics page! What used to be pages of bright, full-color sequential art and storytelling of the highest caliber were squeezed down into tiny black and white boxes. But creativity refuses to die, and like everything else these days, it simply migrated to the Internet! The wild world of webcomics takes the “one strip a day” concept and removes all the barriers: no syndicates to snarl at your content, no space limitations to restrict your style, and no need to water down ideas or concepts that an artist finds interesting just to appeal to the masses! Come and see: it’s a magical world!

I am so excited to see the results. There are people in here that I might go looking for if they aren’t chosen to present. No matter what, it’s going to be a GREAT night. Glad I’m not a judge. Good luck!

  3. Jay Thompson says:

Good grief. That’s a ridiculous amount of quality submissions. Have fun choosing…

  4. Choosing submissions is my least favorite part of the Ignite process. The final lineup should be incredible, but there are SO many good submissions that there was no way avoid turning down some really amazing ideas.
