Ignite Presentation Examples from Ignite Philly – June 12th 2008

Now that we have established a date and location we are now looking for presentation submissions. The awesome thing about the Ignite program is that there are already Ignite’s going on all around the country so we have examples of what is being done.

Below we have embedded a number of videos from the Ignite Philly’s most recent event on June 12th 2008. As you can see there is a wide variety of topics covered and the idea is just to get ideas of what is happening in the area out and in the community. Have a look and then go to our submission page and send us yours!

  1. TOMAS says:

I really enjoyed the presentation, especially Nic’s regarding the $100K house project. I’m curious to know if these presenters have their presentations setup to auto advance, or is someone behind the scenes advancing the slides for them? It actually looks like it takes the presenters out of their ‘groove’, if that makes sense.

  2. Jeff says:

I think some of the events put the slides on auto-rotation every 15 seconds. It forces people to keep moving and prevents them from getting to the end and having 8 slides leftover.

The downside is that it does seem to throw people off balance, but is that a bad thing if keeps things rolling? We’re open for input on how this should work for the Phoenix edition.

  3. Geoff DiMasi says:

In Philadelphia, we collected the presentations before the event and then made sure that they were all set to change slides automatically after 15 seconds.

I don’t think it would work very well to have someone with a stopwatch advancing them or to leave it up to the speakers.

Part of the fun is that everyone is working within the same parameters.

Good luck with everything. Ignite Philly was a blast!

  4. Jeff says:

@Geoff – How did you handle it if they had fewer than 15 slides? Or none at all?

Thanks for stopping in. I heard Ignite Philly was great and hope we can capture some of that excitement!

  5. TOMAS says:

@Geoff – That’s an interesting idea – it feels like a great ‘equalizer’ that would give presenters a nice structure to follow – which would make it easier to design a presentation too.

@Jeff – Maybe an “X” second per slide rule would be a good idea. If a presenter wants to spend more time on a slide, then he/she has the option to copy the slides as many times as they want. For example, if they want to allocate 45 seconds to a slide, then copy that slide 3 times back-to-back in the presentation and limit them to a set amount of slides even if 3 of them are repeated. Does that make sense? :)
